Toyota: Spool turbocharger based on anticipated need to accelerate
Toyota’s patent application publication 20170218862 is one of the more interesting ones published earlier this week. Toyota suggest to predict the need for a vehicle to accelerate and spool the turbocharger in anticipation of such an acceleration.
1. An acceleration event prediction system for a vehicle, comprising: an electronic control unit that is coupled to the at least one of the navigation unit or the sensor, the electronic control unit configured to: determine a predicted route set that includes one or more paths that the vehicle is predicted to travel, determine one or more predicted acceleration events for the predicted route set, detect a respective acceleration event of the one or more predicted acceleration events, and prepare a turbocharger of the vehicle for the respective acceleration event.
